Description: This photo shows the "Bainbridge" in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, in December 1935. The “Bainbridge” was built by Rice Brothers Corp. of East Booth Bay, Maine, in 1922. She experienced numerous ownership transfers and name changes. From 1922 until 1926, the steel propeller vessel was owned by the Benton Transit Co. of Benton Harbor, Michigan. In 1926, Vern Beckwith (Trustee) (Benton Transit Co., Mgr.) assumed ownership of the vessel for two years. Farmers & Merchants National Bank & Trust Co. (Benton Transit Co., Mgr.) maintained ownership from 1928 until 1930, when ownership was then transferred to Farmers & Merchants National Bank & Trust Co. (Goodrich Transit Co., Mgr.). In 1934, Maritime Securities Co., of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, took ownership of the vessel for one year; she was then sold to James F. Keightley (Island Transportation Co., Mgr.) of St. Ignace, MI. During that time, she was renamed “Algomah II.” From 1937 until 1947, ownership transferred to Edith M. Keightley (Island Transportation Co., Mgr.). Arnold Transit Co., of Mackinac Island, MI, assumed ownership from 1947 until 1962. From 1962 until 1966, she was owned by Wasac Waterways, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio, where they converted the propeller vessel to a charter yacht by G&W Welding Co., also of Cleveland. Her name was again changed to “Erie Queen” while under their ownership. Acme Scrap Iron & Metal Co., of Ashtabula, OH, took ownership from 1966 until 1968. Pier Restaurants, Inc., of New York, New York, owned the vessel from 1968 until 1969. In June of 1969, she was purchased by River’s Edge Restaurant, Inc., also of New York. Her hull was stripped and she was converted into a restaurant called “The Boat… At River’s Edge” located at E. 62nd St. & East River, in New York. Last documentation of the vessel was in 1970 as “Erie Queen.”
